INNOVATION WORKSHOP OF THE INVENTION FOUNDATION Project iriskiss™ 2007
The Invention Foundation supports and promotes Finnish invention activities as well as the development and utilization of inventions. The foundation and its representatives offer inventors a wide range of expert assistance in evaluating and developing an invention from an idea into a product. In addition to advice, assessment, and funding, the foundation helps with matters related to protecting, product development, and commercialization of the invention. The Invention Foundation offers inventions and business ideas in the marketing phase to companies and other partners for utilization.
The Innovation Workshop is a service in a pilot phase of the Invention Foundation, being developed to support and assist various business plans, individual product ideas, operating models, service concepts, and similar initiatives. The task of the Innovation Workshop is to assess the project’s business potential and to determine the expertise and funding needed for its protection and marketing. With this initial funding, the project is taken forward with the aim of creating a viable business. The Innovation Workshop monitors and assists the project until the formation of a contract.
The Invention Foundation will launch the Innovation Workshop in September with three different projects. One of the pilot projects is Iris Kiiskinen’s iriskiss™. The goal is to find a suitable manufacturer and buyer for the company’s products. During the project, the optimal method of protection, product name, and the most cost-effective manufacturing method will be defined. In order to market and sell the products, the marketing potential of the products will first be mapped out and their customer segments identified. For the chosen target customer group and cooperation partner, marketing materials will be produced. A lawyer will assist in contract negotiations and prepare the necessary documents. The main objective of the Innovation Workshop is to find a suitable partner for iriskiss™ products for industrial production and broader commercial exploitation.
The funding granted by the Innovation Workshop is used to procure the expert resources necessary for the commercialization of the product idea. If the project is commercially successful, the support must be repaid to the Invention Foundation. The funding granted by the Innovation Workshop cannot be used for the operational expenses of the iriskiss business.
The Invention Foundation sees Iris Kiiskinen’s iriskiss product idea very promising, which combines handcrafted textile art, digital imaging, computer-aided design, and modern production techniques using different materials.

Artist-entrepreneur Iris Kiiskinen from Turku as Expert of the Year
Artist-entrepreneur Iris Kiiskinen from Turku has been selected as Expert of the Year at Akava’s Special Branches. Iris Kiiskinen has developed an innovation that can be easily commercialized, which can be used to produce impressive, individual and multi-purpose interior design solutions that are in line with the spirit of the times.
Akava’s Special Branches and the OP Bank Group present the Expert of the Year Award to a member for significant work that promotes the professional or educational field represented by the association. The award, donated by the OP Bank Group, is worth one thousand euros.
Artist-entrepreneur Iris Kiiskinen produces unique products under the iriskiss brand using creative thinking and design methods. The iriskiss product idea can be used to combine individual textile art made by hand, digital photography, computer-aided design and modern production techniques from different materials.
Iris Kiiskinen’s product idea is a demonstration of creativity that leads to commercially successful operations. iriskiss product family includes interior design products and art textiles, as well as designer clothing.
Expert of the Year Iris Kiiskinen has had a career of over 20 years as an artist-entrepreneur. She describes her profession as a creative worker whose success is based on lifelong learning. She has integrated the knowledge and skills she has learned along the way, immediately and creatively into her own work and the development of her product ideas.
Iris Kiiskinen is a member of the Akava’s Special Branches trade union, Art and Culture Professionals Association TAKU ry. The Expert of the Year award will be presented to Kiiskinen at the Akava’s Special Branches Autumn Meeting in Hämeenlinna on 17 November 2007.
